Poems from Samantha Harris
Empower me, say my differences
Your similarities do not respond
Rather, you grind my face, the brunt of who I am
Into the mud
And you...
You're waiting for your big moment
One day. You grin, expectant eyes
I see your thirst for my adventure, but you don’t see!
it is not...
You sit, huddled. Shivering
I remember when my feelings were overpowering for you
encasing me, controlling my actions
rose colored haze...
I remember standing on that stage
Before thousands of parents and peers
Performing the role of a cutter
And the irony of it all;
How...
It’s dripping away
And I’m twisting the goddamned faucet
Each time a little harder
I push myself a little further
Now it’s pattering away...
